Her music career started in 1965 in San Francisco, when she and her husband Jerry Slick started their own band The Great Society with friends and her brother-in-law. Grace provided vocals, guitar, piano and co-wrote majority of the songs with her brother-in-law. She has admitted enjoying music career because of performing and better earnings than in her earlier modeling career. Psychedelic The Great Society reached success in Bay area. In 1966 another Bay area band, Jefferson Airplane had lost their singer to family life and they asked Slick to join the band. Grace accepted bands invitation and she joined the group bringing two compositions with her: White Rabbit and Somebody to Love. With Slick leading the band, Jefferson Airplane gained great success directing music more from former folk rock to psychedelic rock. Slick rose to fame as one of the most prominent female rock musicians of her time. In 1969 Grace had the privilege to became a first person to say "motherfucker" on live television show. After Jefferson Airplane split up she published solo albums and formed even more popular Jefferson Starship. During 1978 Jefferson Starship's tour in Europe, Slick's alcoholism became a problem for the band and she quit the band. She was admitted to rehab once during 1970's and once in 1990's. She has publicly discussed her problems with alcohol and drugs in her autobiography and several interviews. In 1989 Slick and her former Jefferson Airplane band members reformed the group and released successful reunion album. After a quick reunion she retired from music business. After music career she has made paintings and drawings. She has been married twice, to cinematographer Jerry Slick from 1961 to 1971 and Jefferson Starship lightning desingner Skip Johnson from 1976 to 1994. She has one daughter China Wing Kantner, born in 1971. China's father is Jefferson Airplane guitarist Paul Kartner, whom she had an affair from 1969 through 1975. Slick has had trouble with the law several times due to her drastic acts under the influence.
Style: Grace was the epitome of the strong sexual flower power woman of the late 60's and early 70's. Her style consisted all the key pieces of the hippie movement with colourful oriental influenced tunics, plunging neck lines, fringes and wild long hair. Her style evolved from 60's two piece tunic suits to openly sexual plunging neck lines and wild fringed outfits. She wasn't afraid to say aloud what she wanted and she wasn't afraid to look like she wanted.

  1. Do you know where one could find the tunic suit that she's wearing in the second picture? Or something similar to it?
